The Hawker 400XP (Beechjet 400A) is a light business jet that was first developed by Mitsubishi Heavy Industries (MHI) in the 1970s (MU-300 Diamond). Years later, it was sold to Beechcraft in 1985 and the aircraft became known as the Beechcraft Beechjet 400. It was then renamed to the Beechcraft Hawker 400, when Raytheon purchased Hawker from British Aerospace sometime in 1993.
The Beechjet 400A was announced in 1989 and had its first flight in 1990. It then began to manufacture an upgrade in 2003 and was officially renamed to the 400XP (extra payload) at the EBACE in 2007. While no longer in production, approximately 500 and more aircraft have been built since its initial release. (1, 2)
Performance
While quite identical to the Beechjet 400A, the Hawker 400XP is powered by dual Pratt & Whitney Canada JT15D-5 turbofans with approximately 2,900 lbs force of thrust each. The maximum range found on the XP is around 1,180 nautical miles with 8 passengers. With the XP upgrade, the aircraft seats up to 11 passengers including pilot and crew.
Overall, the maximum range that can be achieved on this aircraft is around 1,519 nautical miles. It also has a long range cruise speed of Mach 0.61, along with a maximum cruise speed of Mach 0.67 (MMO ≈ 0.79).
Also, the maximum takeoff weight (MTOW) available on this aircraft is close to 16,300 lbs. Its maximum landing weight (MLW) is approximately 15,700 lbs and its maximum certified ceiling is around 45,000 ft. (3)
Interior
As you step into the cabin, you will notice that it measures; 4 ft 9″ in height, 4 ft 11″ in width and 15 ft 7″ in length. The baggage compartments are located internally as well as externally, and can hold a total volume of 56 ft³.
The initial avionics found on the Beechjet 400A / Hawker 400XP was the Rockwell Collins Pro Line 4 Electronic Flight & Information System (EFIS). It later earned supplemental type certificate (STC) approval and upgraded in 2016 to the Garmin G5000.
This setup includes three 12-in high resolution LCD displays, along with dual touchscreen display controllers in the flight deck. It also comes equipped with their Synthetic Vision Technology (SVT), Automatic Dependent Surveillance Broadcast Out (ADS-B Out), SurfaceWatch and more. (4)
